rooter is right, why should we the angling public always have the last say,we pay for the right to be left in peace not have some naked thwaite wanting to have a skinny dip or organise a dragon boat race....thats the trouble when you stick a so called star in front of the camera instead of somebody who is relevant to the cause!

Rooter, all I can do is reiterate what I've said to other posters - you're welcome to contribute to the debate (or indeed to any other subject) but I will not tolerate personal abuse or libellous remarks. Thank you.

Ok, I admit I don't actually know for a fact that you are wizened, or indeed, a harridan, but you might be, so that would not construe abuse or libel, but point taken. Still don't know what you see in him, I mean, it's not as if he gives a monkeys about you lot anyway is it?

Well, so you don't know what we see in him. I'm not entirely sure why that's a necessary condition of having a reasoned debate about how much anglers vs boaties contribute to maintaining the UK's rivers....
EDIT: I should also say that nobody on this site claims to Speak For Griff.

anglers are the eyes of the rivers...fact!,we are the first souls awake and on the rivers,id say a huge percentage of problems relating to rivers ie pollution, fishkills, poaching is reported by anglers....our license fee cover the repair of locks even pays for thames water to remove every tree from a mile stretch of a river so the boaters can see round corners......atleast 30 trees got chopped down just for them from our 27 quid each........wrong!

EDIT: I should also say that nobody on this site claims to Speak For Griff. Because Alison, your posts and ideals will quite possibly be skewed and biased. Have you ever dealt with the man on a daily basis, can you say you know him? His thoughts regarding canoists and free access are a no go area. It will not happen, let alone work.

Actually, as there are a bunch of anglers on here, can I ask you a question? In all seriousness.
I live right by the Grand Union Canal and every weekend there are a bunch of anglers down by the canal...all with HUGE fishing rods that look as though they are expecting to catch Jaws at the very least. What on earth are they going to catch in the GU that would require that sort of equipment?
Hope you don't mind me asking (and going off topic) but I am genuinely curious...
EDIT: Rooter: I have met Griff, but certainly don't know him. And admiration for someone does not necessarily translate to 'accepting his opinions on every subject, uncritically'.
