Rooter, I think you love him really. Just out of interest again here (recurring theme), what did you edit/change on this? PS: Don't answer if you're embarrasssed!

Of course there are degrees of offensiveness. Don't be daft. (and please don't see that as a personal attack either). For what it's worth, I don't think it's offensive to ask whether or not anyone's gay. Just irrelevent and childish. I'm not being sanctimonious, just trying to do my job. It's a legitimate question, perhaps not releveant to this thread, but you could put it in the general curiosity box if that sounds better. Is he? Does the Pope S*it in the woods?

How sanctimonious are you? (please don't see this as a personal attack) So, you quote the admin, attack her and then say it's not personal. So you were aiming that at all of us, were you? If so, then state it and don't quote one person. You aren't going to win any fights by behaving like a two year old. I'd like to say quite whilst you're ahead, but you seem to have lowered yourself to the level of a dung beetle. And yes, that WAS a personal attack. Take it as you will. I for one won't stand back and be polite whilst you continue to tyrade abuse and patronise at the staff on this board. Is quoting someone an attack? And for the record; 'whilst' is not accepted as an real word in journalism, tirade is spelt thus too. Mr Jones' quotes are verbatim, it matters not which periodical they're published in. Why so negative?

It matters if they were quoted out of context, rooter - an expert on journalese should know that!

Woh what a mature bunch there are on this post....
To start of I'll admit it I am a kayaker.... but do dabble a bit in fishing (both sides can hate me now). Nor before he raised the issue of access to rivers in England and Wales had I heard much about or really watched Griff Jones and to Cap it all I'm also Scottish.....
In my land of heavenly ideal roughly 20miles away from the English border I've never had an issue kayaking or canoing on the river Tweed, as well as the more 'interesting' rivers of the highlands but lets stick with the Tweed system for now. The Tweed system (if I have my facts right) is one of the premium salmon fishing rivers in the UK playing host to celebrity fishermen/women as well as bringing in massive amounts of cash to the local economy, with as 'a local' I certainly appreciate! It's also seen a massive rise in the number of kayakers/canoeists using it in the last 10 years (roughly how long I have been paddling it). Yet somehow profits for fisheries and catch levels, as reported in local media (Southern Reporter, Border Telegraph) have been on the rise in the last few years. How can is compare with the 'kayakers destroy/scare/whatever fish' rubbish that is bandied about freely in England/Wales? Are out Scottish fish so superior to the English/Welsh ones? Our local kayaking club even manage to rent property from a local land owner and alternate use with a fishery! During the main fishing days in the salmon season we avoid sections of the Tweed that are heavily fished as there is MUTUAL RESPECT between both groups, certainly from a legal stand point we don't have to do this. In my opinion the way it's gone in England is that one user group has gone we were hear first, we've got more cash so the rest of you can get lost (to put it politely). English/Welsh paddlers have been trying to get access agreements in place for around 50 years! They have had little to no success. This had led paddlers as well as other 'non approved' river users to develop that attitude of 'screw it I'm going anyway' as being nice and reasonable has no effect. England and Wales may need a different solution than Scotland as basically our Right to Roam laws were just clearing up something that was always the case. But it does need a different solution to the one currently in place. Griff Jones is raising this issue and making it publicly known which it certainly currently is not! Yes his comment about annoying fishermen may not have been the best but the amount of stories I'd heard about paddlers having their car tyres slashed, stones thrown, hooks cast at them etc etc. To be honest it palls in comparison. To conclude I'd like to say that I've met just as many Kayakers who are ar**holes as fishermen. It's a two sided affair but one side has all the power and as is always stated in the media, the British public loves an underdog. Hope this makes sense it's about the longest post on an Internet forum I've ever made!

Oohh...my goodness..just have to step in here before retiring to my bunk.'Whilst' is indeed an accepted journalistic word......I spent almost 20 years on a newspaper BK
